Many of us were disgusted at the appointment way before the Rosatom gig came up - based purely on his bigoted comments. Not everything goes back to Oppenheimer think tanks.
Dispute resolution mechanism is the only hope of resolving so much tension among opposing parties. It needs to be handled with care, open mindedness and total sincerity. We need to maintain the GNU at all costs. The GNU is the best thing that has happened to us under the circumstances.

I'm really hoping that the ANC, DA and other GNU partners are able to take a mature and constructive approach to sorting out these issues over the next few months and years. We need stability in government, and we need to keep the lunatic left out of power. They're just not progressive, at all.

Pretty measured comments all round from Steenhuisen - I applaud him for that. And especially for admitting he got the appointment of Cabanac so, so, badly wrong! Hopefully the DA learns from this going forward! And maybe other parties could look in the mirror a bit too?
Exposé se foot. A free exchange of ideas is a mark of functional democracy, having someone fired and/or for his freely articulated views is Totalitarian, this is especially true when you disagree with them.
You seem to have replied to the wrong comment, but ho-hum: if if Roman 'Rosatom' Cabanac stood by his freely exchanged ideas, why did he delete them all as soon as a lovely paycheck was in the offing?

This is called putting pressure on the party to make the right decisions. I believe that the pressue of media,comments,direct emails to DA made a difference. No way will I support Trumpist/Russo appointees. DA will no longer have my unconditional support, they need to earn it.

No doubt it makes a difference to criticise daft appointments but to threaten to stop supporting a party that makes exponentially less glaring mistakes than the rest is a bit extreme. Don't threaten. Just join the party that's better than them. As soon as I find out I will join them too.
John Steenhuisen has set and example of how to rectify bad decision and hope others (parties) will follow this example! However, I can't help wondering if this was a planned tactical stunt of JS to show off/others what has to happen in such circumstances!

Thank you, DA, you have shown that principles still matter. Unlike the ANC protecting a tainted Justice Minister or the MK putting clearly biased individuals in oversight of our judges. This is why I vote DA.

Agreed. Making mistakes is less important than what you do to rectify them. This undesirable error in judgment shows the DA listens to the people and their criticism. It took a bit of time but not forever like others.

I cannot celebrate when someone loses an opportunity. But for the good of the country, I think this is a well deserved call made by JS, regardless of whose hand is behind his move. Once again, DA continues to asserted itself as the only part that acts decisively against wrong doers. Its commended

Didn't do proper due diligence? Didn't he spend 5 minutes googling "Roman Cabanac"? Because that's all it would have taken.
However, this prevents the defenders of Cabanac and his racially charged views, with a golden opportunity to come out in strong rebuke of John Steenheizen, for victimization and unfair dismissal of Roman. This could be revelation that these are not DA members, but some far rights, masquerading as DA
